June 21, 1900

Description of image:

Span 3 of bridge (from north side) collapsed as train was going over it. CPR Locomotive 508 sank to the bottom and some believe it was never salvaged.  The passenger car is resting vertically againts the pier and the caboose is still on the bridge but the rest of the train is underwater.  Some men on the debris pile and some on the bridge.  Bridge was a wooden structure with wood crib piers filled with boulders.  One can also see the ice breaker piers on the upstream side of the bridge piers.  View is facing north.
